| Did you know that at least 10% to 15% of the
population has a learning disability? We are talking
about over 3 million Canadians! With statistics like
those, it would be realistic to assume that given a
population of over 700 at St. Peter's Jr. High,
there would be about 70-100 students diagnosed with
a learning disability. Understanding learning
disabilities can be challenging for everyone
involved - students, teachers, and parents. This
year, one goal of the Guidance Advisory Committee is
to promote an awareness of learning disabilities for
all those involved. A first step is to have easy
access to updated and reliable information and
resources on learning disabilities by putting links
on our own SPJH website. The following web sites
provide local/provincial, national, and
international sources of information: St. Peter's
Jr. High has a membership with the Learning
Disabilities Association of Newfoundland and
Labrador (LDANL), which is a local non-profit
organization dedicated to providing information,
resources, services and support to persons (and
their families/teachers) with learning disabilities.

At the national level, the Learning Disabilities
Association of Canada is a non-profit,
well-established organization whose mission is to be
the national voice for persons with learning
disabilities and those who support them. For more

Learning Disabilities Online is a leading website
on learning disabilities for students, parents,
teachers, and other professionals. To find more
