Why People
Bully:
Signs of Bullying (excerpted from
kidshealth.org)
Of course
bruises and bumps are the obvious signs of physical bullying. The
following are also signs to be aware of:
-
inventing
illnesses to avoid school
-
missing
money and belongings
-
sleeping
problems
-
irritability
-
poor
concentration
-
unexpected
changes in routine

problems
with school work
What
To Do If You Are Bullied:
Talk to your
parents or an adult you can trust, such as a teacher, school counselor or
the administration.
Many teens
feel that involving an adult will only make the situation worse. They
believe that they should handle this problem by themselves. Although in
some situations it may be possible to end bullying without adult
intervention, in more extreme cases it is necessary to involve school
officials or law enforcement. Talking to an adult will help in developing
a plan to end the bullying and give much needed support.
Do not blame
yourself for the bully’s actions.
Act
confident
Try to
make friends with other students.
There is
safety in numbers. Usually a bully will leave you alone if you are with a
group of friends.
Avoid
situations where bullying can happen.
If at all
possible, avoid being alone with a bully. Walk with friends and avoid
places that are not well supervised or are isolated.
Do not resort
to violence or weapons.
The Pledge:
This is for
us, our friends today, and our friends tomorrow.
We think being
mean stinks! We won’t watch someone get picked on, because we are
do-something people, not do-nothing people. We care. We can help change
things. We can be leaders. In our world there are no bullies allowed.
Bullying is bad. Bullying bites. Bullying bothers us. We know sticking
up for someone is the right thing to do. We are St. Peter’s Junior High,
and we won’t stand by, we will stand up! |
